Communities

West of Orkney Windfarm

As part of our mission to deliver a world-leading offshore windfarm, we are keen to communicate openly with communities across the north of Scotland and offer multiple opportunities for us to meet and hear your views.

In summer 2023 we returned to the Durness Gathering, the Halkirk Games, the Dounby Show and the Orkney County Show, after successful visits last year. In November 2022, we organised project specific consultation events in venues across Caithness, Sutherland and Orkney which were well attended. These were followed by 'formal' Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) events in May 2023 and June 2023.

If you were not able to make it to any of our events, our virtual public exhibition can continue to be accessed here.

We have now finalised our Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) Report and this has been submitted alongside our application for offshore consent which has been sumbitted to Scottish Ministers.

The project has also submitted an application for consent to The Highland Council regarding onshore proposals for the West of Orkney Windfarm.

Accompanying each application is an extensive suite of assessments based on survey data collected over two and a half years which can be viewed here:

Donations to small organisations

The West of Orkney Windfarm is keen to support small organisations and projects across the north of Scotland.

We are delighted to offer donations to local initiatives based in Orkney, Caithness and Sutherland in particular, and would welcome applications for activities including (but not restricted to):

  • Education in science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) and the environment
  • Social enterprises or initiatives
  • The arts

If you think your organisation might be eligible, please fill out our donations application form.

We will review all applications on a regular basis and will inform you of our decision.
