West of Orkney Windfarm invites Orkney public to ‘pop in’ for an update on the windfarm

Local people interested in the proposed West of Orkney Windfarm can pop in for an update from some of the project team.

The pop in session will take place on Wednesday 28th February, 4pm-7pm, at Orkney Harbour Authority, Kiln Corner, Kirkwall.

In 2022, a consortium comprising Corio Generation, TotalEnergies, and Scottish offshore wind developer RIDG successfully secured rights in the Crown Estate Scotland’s ScotWind leasing round to develop a 2 GW offshore windfarm around 30km off the west coast of Orkney and around 25km from the Sutherland coast.

Donald Budge, the West of Orkney Windfarm’s Head of Supply Chain said:

“Following recent presentations to the Holm, Stromness and Kirkwall & St Ola Community Councils, the West of Orkney Windfarm team is in Orkney for a series of meetings with stakeholders and supply chain contacts and are also keen to provide an update on the project to the wider Orkney community.

“We have already attended a number of local gatherings in Caithness, Sutherland and Orkney and plan further windfarm-specific events in the months ahead, to ensure we gather as many local opinions as possible and keep the communities up to date with developments.”

As part of the wind farm proposal, the developers have designed a supply chain strategy specifically to maximise opportunities for the north of Scotland.

This is to be supported by a £105 million investment initiative during the development phase of the project that is planned to be enhanced to £140 million by match funding from third parties.
